Childhood is a magical time when the trees and buildings appear higher, the colours are livelier, music is vivid, and every event is an opportunity to explore something new.

Those of us who were born in 1970s harbour memories of the melodious jingles of 1980s that evoke acute nostalgia. These are the reminiscence of our childhood home, parents & friends, school life… These memories are there with us to stay and absolutely no other music or lifestyle can take their place!

If the millennials thought they were born in the avantgarde phase, they must have a sneak peek in our childhood influences to understand how refined and bold our world was. Here are some adverts collected based on audience recall process.

1. Nescafe

When you were not allowed to have much coffee and this frothy cool drink was all you wanted to grow up fast for.

2. Liril

Now, this was and still is an inspirational ad, for all of us (I take the liberty to report cent percent acquiescence). The reasons to love this ad were the same across demographics. We all wanted to be ‘her’ or wanted her!!

Year – 1968 “The freshness soap”

3. Bajaj

This ad officially rendered us guilt free… We observed grandparents, parents, older brothers, sisters, uncles…. and realized that ‘the sin’ was equally committed by all generations.

4. Amul Butter

We had nothing else to spread on our bread!! Amul liberated us…it gave us a reason to demand bread (while moms still took pride in serving ‘ghar ka khana’)!!

5. Complan

This was our ultimate and legitimate health food. The moment someone complemented us that we had grown in height, we would inevitably sing “I am a Complan girl…(although my family bought Bournvita 😊)”
