Jaisalmer, also known as the Golden City of Rajasthan, is one of those older towns in Rajasthan that have been drawing the world’s attention for a long time now. The destination still seems to be stuck in time. Distinguished for its beauty, warm and welcoming, Jaisalmer is recognize for its golden-hued houses and the Golden Fort or the Sonar Quila, that is one among the worlds’ surviving forts. Jaisalmer has it all to be a perfect winter getaway destination.

The city offers plenty of possibilities to people attempting to explore and unveil the history, architecture, culture, and cuisines. While on the adventure rides on the simmering golden sand, the narrow grey bitumen is often overshadowed by gigantic sand dunes on either side. The racing jeeps frequently pass by the sandstorm settlers that are settled on the sides, and witness the mirages at a range as the roads fade in the horizon.

The countless palaces and museums narrate the story of the past. It is also home to a war museum that takes us through the tales of the brave souls in the Indian Army who fought in the historic battle of Longewala in December 1971. In a single night during the war, 179 Pakistani soldiers were martyred, and 37 tanks were destroyed. Apart from the ancient Rajputana heritage, Gadisar lake also serves as the town’s prime water source. This lake was made by the first ruler of Jaisalmer, Raja Rawal Jaisal, is surrounded by several temples and green space that accomplishes to be a pleasant tourist point, and an ideal site for nature lovers. There are several stores lined along the street paths where one can witness camel rides offered to the visitors.

Following Gadisar lake, some raw adventure awaits a few hours from town, in the Thar desert. The roller-coaster of desert jeep safari and the camel safari, often let you enjoy sunsets that leave you mesmerized with the beauty of golden hues, while giving you an illusion of chasing the sinking sun all the way to the horizon.

The rapidly approaching dusk lets you enjoy the star gazing under the clear sky, in the frosty wind, beside the white tents that prepare a warm welcome with the large bonfire. A full stomach and a content heart after a long day, filled with adventure and awe-inspiring sights, are just what you need to fall into a deep and uninterrupted sleep under the stars.
