Holi is a “festival of love”, the “festival of colours”, and the “festival of spring”. Holi marks the beginning of springy chatter after a long taciturn winter, symbolic of the triumph of good over evil, in Indian context.

On the day of Holi, the entire town through its streets and lanes, turns red, green, and yellow as people throw gulal (coloured powder) on each other. These quaint celebrations are instrumental in bringing people of different cultures together. Each colour carries a meaning. Red symbolizes love and fertility while green stands for new beginnings. Friends, neighbours, and families gather together for festive meals, sweets, fun and frolic.

However, for the last one year, due to Covid, the world order has undergone a change. This year, in March, following a spike in Covid cases, many cities have passed an order prohibiting people from gathering in large numbers in public. While we are vigilant and celebrate Holi at home, how about recalling some of the finest Holi songs from the movies and for a short while, dwell in the pleasure of this vivid, joyous festival. Here are the 5 top-of-mind and most liked Holi songs by the generation X. Enjoy!
