  1. The kids can be very mean in school… I know my son suffered for 5 years…he was tortured for years by the school staff as well as the kids for being weird.
  2. Very true my son got bullied at school for having two brothers with autism. It’s just awful! People need to learn about disabilities and be a little understanding..
  3. They are very talented, your brother isn’t weird at all, he’s gifted…
  4. I’m autistic and I don’t think weird should be a bad word. It’s just different… I am proudly weird and awkward, that’s just how I am!!
  5. I have always told all 4 of my children that we are all weird and that the so called normal is just boring. So now, when other kids do say one of mine is weird, they just laugh and come out with “yeah and your problem is what?”
  6. I have disability and I don’t think weird is a very nice word..
  7. ‘Weird’ can also be perceptive, a special quality of a leader & as a leader people will try to undermine you…
  8. At school, the responsibility lies with the teacher…how she integrates the child with other students…instead of calling ‘weird’! The child can be positioned in a way that all the students get to spend some time regularly with the autistic child to learn/experience different ways…
  9. If the autistic child is reprimanded constantly and his ways are criticized, the other students will, of course, call him weird….It is conditioning…and that starts early in life!
  10. We need to educate our children so they don’t grow up bullying people because they are different! We have enough adult bullies already! Any child could have had autism…something our children and adults need to remember!
  11. I totally agree with the idea of educating the young about their classmates’ disabilities! It allows room for empathy and compassion to filter through.. Change can only be made through education!!
  12. Many successful people are diagnosed with autism and they possess special abilities. They may think differently but they might have better ideas too..
