A traveling soul often finds its way to a new destination, no matter whether it’s at the distance of some miles or just a walk away. They believe in backpacking solo and prefer to explore the unexplored in search of varied experiences and soul-enriching journeys.  Over the past few years, there has been a tremendous growth in the number of women solo travelers in India.

Many strong and independent women today are ensuing their passion for traveling by becoming full-time solo travelers, and not surrendering to their ten to six jobs.  Although India is a patriarchal society where woman safety is perpetually a concern, these women solo travelers are challenging the conventional mould. They are the refreshing examples of a slow but progressive society.

Here are the journeys of a few solo women travel bloggers who are inspiring many to live and travel independently.

  1. Shivya Nath

Her journey started when she first traveled to Singapore for her graduation. Her job at the Singapore Tourism Board taught her much about travel. She left her job at the age of 23 and become a solo traveler, just after the two years of work. Now, she is travels around the world, and shares her experiences on her blog “the shooting star”. She has lived with a Mayan community in Guatemala, swam with sharks off the East Coast of Malaysia. She has even been featured by Travel Giants, BBC and National Geographic Traveller, India.

2. Lakshmi Sharath

A well-known writer, the content specialist who has worked almost for 15 years in media and quit the job when she realized her passion for traveling. Today, she has covered almost 25 countries and attempts the paths less covered in India. She started her blog “Travel with Lakshmi” in the year 2005 and won many awards including India’s best travel blog of the year from Indibloggies.

3. Rutavi Mehta

She is adventurous and likes trekking. Her first travel break to Europe was a life-changing experience. After seven years of work time in hospitality industry, she realized and discovered her passion for traveling and started her blog “Photo Katha”. She has recently trekked up to the Everest Base camp and raced an auto-rickshaw from Jaisalmer to Shillong.

4. Mridula Dwivedi

Mridula is considered to be the most experienced traveler with 18+ years of traveling. Her blog “Travel Tales from India and Abroad” started in 2005 and has never stopped since then. She has covered 26 countries till date and her website has been featured by BBC and the Guardian. She did a Ph.D. from IIT and worked as a professor till 2016. Since then, she has been a full-time solo traveler and her favorite travel memories and photographs can be seen on her blog.

5. Ankita Sinha

She is an IT Engineer turned solo traveler who loves adventure sports, travel, and fashion. She has covered over 18 countries and was awarded the GCC Best Travel Writer Award in 2014. Her blog ”Anki On The Move” was featured in The Hindu, Huffington Post, Canada Tourism, Fox Traveller, Outlook Traveller, Elle, and Hindustan Times for its fun content and vlogs.
